Myrqvist at Pitti Uomo: A Behind-the-Scenes Experience

One of the things I enjoy most about Pitti Uomo is the opportunity to meet the people behind the brands I’ve worked with. Communicating via Instagram or email often feels impersonal—many times, you’re not even speaking directly with the brand but rather through a PR representative. Pitti Uomo offers a rare chance to connect with these brands in person, learn about their creative processes, and hear the stories behind their products.

This year, I was particularly excited to meet the team at Myrqvist. My friends and I were fortunate to receive an invitation to their presentation, held just outside the fair. Being based in Italy, I don’t have easy access to their physical stores—the nearest one is in London, followed by Stockholm. My only prior experience with Myrqvist had been selecting a pair of shoes online and receiving them in the mail. As someone who has worked as a shoe salesman, I know how much seeing and touching a product in person enhances the experience.

Upon arriving at the venue, I was pleasantly surprised to find over 30+ right-foot shoes that Myrqvist had shipped to Florence in advance. It was fascinating to hear the logistical story behind this feat (pun intended). Fortunately, the venue had an elevator—something of a rarity in the historical buildings of Florence, which I know well from having lived there and attended Pitti Uomo multiple times.

The setting was picturesque, with Swedish-named shoes displayed against the stunning backdrop of the Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore. The presentation was led by Myrqvist’s founder, Sebastian Öhrn, alongside Ludwig Bohlin Westman, their Customer Experience and Social Media Coordinator. Their passion for craftsmanship was evident as they discussed the intricate details of their designs, making millimeter adjustments to improve fit. Interestingly, both Sebastian and Ludwig wear sample sizes and personally test-drive the shoes before approving any updates or new styles.

Myrqvist showcased their refined #19, #21, and #22 lasts, hinting at further updates in the spring. Ludwig even mentioned he was breaking in a new pair of loafers with minimal discomfort during Pitti Uomo—a bold move, considering how grueling the event can be on your feet even in comfortable shoes. Another highlight of the presentation was seeing the KarlbergMyrqvist's take on the classic horse-bit loafer which launched officially this very week.

One aspect of Myrqvist that I particularly appreciate is how they stay true to their Swedish heritage by naming their shoes after places in Sweden. This tradition is something English shoemakers have long embraced with UK place names, and it’s great to see Myrqvist continuing this practice in their own way. It adds a layer of storytelling and authenticity to the brand, making each pair feel even more special.

Pitti Uomo is always a whirlwind of style, networking, and discovery, but this experience with Myrqvist truly stood out. Seeing their commitment to craftsmanship and innovation firsthand only deepened my appreciation for their work.

Beyond the current lineup, there were also exciting discussions about future projects. While I can’t reveal too much just yet, let’s just say Myrqvist is considering expanding into new leather options—something I’m eagerly anticipating.  I look forward to what they have in store next.
