Bloodborne

Hi Everyone! Some of you may have noticed that I haven't posted the past few days.
You can blame it on Bloodborne. For those that are unaware, Bloodborne is a Playstation 4 Exclusive Survival Horror Game that was released last week. It was developed by a Japanese Studio called From Software under the direction of Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Despite all my previous posts, I am an avid gamer and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
If I had to choose between movies and videogames, I would choose video games every time.
The video game industry is now the biggest entertainment industry. Grand Theft Auto 5 alone beat Avengers and Avatar in Day 1 sales.

Bloodborne might not make the same number of sales, but for me it makes more of an impression.
Most games these days have long elaborate tutorials to introduce you to the game and its mechanics. Compared to games like Contra and other classics (I'm looking at you Battletoads Turbo Tunnel), they are very forgiving in terms of difficulty. When you fail or die the game loads a previous save file and you lose less than 5 minutes of your time. If the game is still too difficult, you can always scale down the difficulty.

In Bloodborne you are a hunter in a Victorian inspired world. The town people have gone crazy and there are monsters abound. Rather than go for the closet scares( "Boo! we surprised you!") Bloodborne scares you with mortality. Each enemy is capable of of bringing up the "YOU DIED" screen, and believe me you will die a lot. Did I mention that when you die, you restart all the way from the start, all enemies respawn, and you lose all your experience gained until you can reclaim it from your dead body? The game teaches you to learn from your mistakes. The deaths don't feel cheap. Every time I've died in this game its either because I was too aggressive, I wasn't aware of my surrounding and I cornered myself or my level was not high enough to be in that area in the first place.

The beauty of this game is when you level up and become better at the game. Enemies that used to scare you will no longer pose a threat and you will complete boss fights that seemed previously impossible. The game will keep throwing new enemies that hit harder and faster and you will just keep pushing to get better. This might seem ridiculous but there is a real sense of achievement when you finally beat that enemy or boss that kept giving you grief.

If you have a Playstation 4 and want a game that actually challenges you and forces you to become better, check out Bloodborne. for those that have previous generation consoles, check out From Software's previous titles Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2 and Demon's Souls (PS3 Exclusive that started it all) for a similar fix.
