Talking about Banksy |
Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a good week so far.
Farfetch hosted a "Menswear blogger" Street Art Tour and I was lucky enough to be one of the guests. Farfetch set up the event to promote their menswear oriented editorials. If you haven't yet, be sure to check out their latest post on their take on Elevated Urban Essentials <http://www.farfetch.com/uk/editorial/elevated-urban-essentials-men.aspx >
Farfetch hired Frank Malt AKA STEAM156 to take us around Shoreditch and show us what Street Art is all about. The first question he asked is if we knew the difference between Street Art and Graffiti. The majority of us of course thought it was the same thing. To put it simply (maybe even over simplifying the two) Graffiti usually consists of letters done freehand. Usually this is the tag or name of the author. Street Art on the other hand is more image-based and sometimes involves stickers and stencils.
Frank emphasised that today's tour would all be about Street Art and the various artists.
To name a few, he introduced us to Ben Wilson who is known for his chewing gum art.
Apparently who painstakingly carved out 400 pieces of chewing gum on the millennium bridge.
Christiaan Nagel who is known for putting mushroom on rooftops
Invader who is know for his retro gaming inspired mosaic, specifically his mosaic space invaders.
Dank who is know for his Toyko Neon art style
Ben Eine and his mural that commemorates the death of a 22 year old.
He also of course mentioned Banksy, his marketing exploits and possible identity.
All in all it was a very interesting day. It made me a bit more aware of my surroundings.
when you are in Shoreditch, you don't have to look far to find a piece of street art somewhere.
I now keep my eye open wherever I am just in case I might spot the occasional Street Art.
